

Sometimes while idle, the Grunt can be seen and heard scratching itself or whimpering, as if crying. Upon paying close attention, its growls sound like an attempt at normal speech, for if it notices the player, it may make a garbled attempt to say "What was that?", or "There you are." Its visual and auditory perception appears to be unimpaired, however, as they can easily notice Daniel if he is within viewing or hearing range. However, they are still capable of emitting a range of guttural growls, hisses, and noises. They cannot speak properly, owing to its inability to move what is left of its lower jaw and its apparent lack of a tongue. In spite of the possibility of a retained humanity, or basic animal intelligence, it does not stop them or cause any hesitation in them while they seek out, chase down, trap, and attempt to kill Daniel throughout the castle. The Grunt is missing its fingers on the left hand (though the concept art displays another set of digits) they are instead replaced by a swollen club studded with crude, rusted blades, which serve as the creature's primary weapon, and are stained with blood this indicates that the grunt has either attacked another person or other type of animal before or that the blades were attached in such a way that it caused the Grunt to bleed. Its eyes are large, bulging and reptilian. There are clumps of hair still attached to its head, and the nose is missing entirely. Its head is malformed, with a distended, boneless jaw that hangs over its torso, stretched to an absurd length.

Its "skin" also functions as its clothing, as shown by the skirt-like protrusion of loose skin around its waist and the sound of rubbing skin made when it walks. Stitches and open scar-like wounds cover its pasty and stained skin, with bandages bound tightly around its feet and other parts of its torso. It is unclear if it is a gruesomely disfigured human, or if it was artificially created in this state. Face is one of several examples of naming and humanising the Gatherers, other's including Pewdiepie's "Bro" and Markiplier's "Moose Man".The Grunt is a repulsive, humanoid being with a seemingly pieced-together body. He enjoys games and activities including tag, though his means of tagging is not favoured by other participants. He speaks in a thick Russian accent, though this is possibly simply due to his deformed lips. Alongside this, his casually shambles in search of intruders, pursuing them with single-minded determination.Īt times he does express personality, typically when interacting with Minx or Krism, he is actually very excitable and social. Face is typically illiterate due to its deformities, simply growling and gurgling unintelligibly. His mouth is deformed beyond recognition, having several missing teeth and his bottom lip hanging unnaturally towards the centre of his abdomen. Several leather straps are tied around his body and his arms, likely to maintain body integrity. Folds of skin overlap on his head and stomach and his eyes wander, implying poor eyesight. Face is a scientifically constructed creature formed from the corpse of a human victim, and sports several deformities from the process. He later appears in a nightmare sequence and the couple are overjoyed by his return. In this, he begins stalking Minx and Krism as they explore their home, scaring them with brief appearances. Face also makes an astonishing return in the indie horror game The Apartment. Minx plays a few games and eventually leaves, guilt-stricken when he meekly bids her farewell. In the Easter Egg room, he is the owner of a small bowling alley and wears a Russian hat.


However, one instance that differs from this routine is in the custom map Terebris Lake. He will either find her and chase her in a game of tag, or he will give up and start searching for her somewhere else. Face searching around the area for her while she hides in fear. Whenever he appears, Minx and him will immediately begin playing a game of hide and seek, Mr. Face makes various appearances in Minx' playthroughs of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and it's various custom maps, all with the same role and behaviour.
